It was in Paris in January 2016, at the prestigious Maison et Objet (M&O) trade fair that Yad Cheri first came across Troels Flensted’s work. At that time, Troels had been selected to represent Danish Design in the category: Talents à la carte with his signature "Poured" Collection.

We were immediately drawn to his beautiful Collection while we were visiting his stand at the fair and were not surprised when we learned that he later received the « Talent à la Carte «  Award that same week. This was the start of a very promising career.

But let’s take a few steps back and look back on how it all began. After graduating in 2014 from the emblematic Central St Martin’s in London, Troels moves back to his native Denmark and opens a studio with 4 other designers in Copenhagen. Troels had always been interested in understanding how things function and in his experimental studio, he explored the potential of material behaviour, colours, and manufacturing processes.

The "Poured" Collection which consists of trays, bowls & plates, is precisely the result of 2 years of experimentation and research. The product itself is a combination of mineral powder, water-based acrylics and pigments mixed together producing a texture ready to be molded. The different patterns are determined by the quantity of pigment added to the mixture and by the way, the mixture is poured into the mold.

The final pattern appears as the different ingredients are combined, which is the hardest part to master.

That very instant, the moment these ingredients  come together to create the tray, the platter or bowl is named by troels as the « frozen moment » thus creating a unique piece each time.

Since our encounter in 2016, Troels' professional journey has moved on at an impressive speed. He was awarded "Talent of the year 2017" at Design Awards in Denmark. And just recently the studio received the bronze « A » Design Award for the poured collection. Troels' work has been exhibited at some of the most respected design fairs across Europe including 100% Design, Designjunction, London Design Fair, Northmodern, Stockholm Design Week & Milan Design Week - to name a few. He is currently working on new projects and collaborations and has just recently launched new collections made from aluminium and sterling silver at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2018 this month.

His work is a continual experimentation and exploration of new materials.

Troels Flensted at the age of 31 is only at the beginning of a stellar career. He is the new designer to follow and Yad Cheri is following closely.
